Protecting our Nation on Memorial Day: Kids Sustainability Video Challenge

Share

Here in the United States Memorial Day has it’s roots as a time dedicated to remembering those who have fought to protect our nation, giving the ultimate sacrifice to this end. More recently, Memorial Day also has been recognized as the “unofficial” start of summer: family BBQs, soccer and lacrosse games, gardening, planting, beach time and time outdoors, to name a few.

We want to suggest another meaning and way for the kids in your life to celebrate this Memorial Day weekend, one that combines both concepts: protecting our country, our homes and our planet Earth, and “acting out” – in a good way. Encourage your kids to take part in the Youth Sustainability Challenge this weekend – and create a video showcasing how they are protecting our world and working to make it more sustainable,” while at the same time getting outside and having some fun!

So grab the kids in your life, in particular the ones 13-25, and share with them the “Sustainability Video Challenge” that the US Government has created and for which submissions will be accepted until June 1st. Listen and learn as Lisa Jackson, head of the Environmental Protection Agency explains what the challenge is all about.

The premise is to “create a video to tell the world what you are doing in your community to foster sustainability and create an America built to last.” If the video wins you kids will be invited to a White House event.

Let us know if your kids submit a video so our ClimateMama community can vote and promote it!

P.S. Happy Memorial Day weekend to all our supportive Climate Mamas and Papas out there.

P.P.S. If you haven’t already, please meet our “newest” Climate Mama, Penny Bauder, who is showcased on our website!

Yours,

Climate Mama
