Eating with the Climate in Mind: How Stonyfield Helps!

stonyfield-logo_0Did you know that I am a Stonyfield Yo-getter, and darn proud of it!? I am part of a team of mom bloggers from around the country, who together “shout out” our support in a variety of different ways and for a range of different reasons, for a company that goes the extra mile. Stonyfield helps us: to help our families eat healthy food, to be more healthy ourselves and also – and to me this is soooo very important – to help our planet stay healthy too!

I want you to know straight out that I don’t get paid to be a Yo-getter (although every once in a while I do get to sample some amazing Stonyfield products). But I am happy to have Yo-getter as one of my “titles” as it gives me added reasons to share good news about a company that we feel really wants to help in the fight against climate change. Stonyfield does this in some very overt and concrete ways.

shutterstock_11256511Let me tell you about just a few of the ways that Stonyfield is a “climate change fighter extraordinaire” and then I want to also share with you our take on some great Greek yogurt that my family and I got to sample, to help us get started on our family path to more healthy eating in 2014!

Stonyfield is a key member of BICEP (Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy). BICEP is made up of companies that work with relevant members of Congress to pass meaningful energy and climate change legislation that is consistent with these 3 core principals:

1. Promoting Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
2. Increasing Investment in a Clean Energy Economy
3. Supporting Climate Change Adaptation, Technology Transfer and Forest Preservation

We think that Stonyfield’s membership in BICEP alone speaks for itself and helps you understand why we at ClimateMama would want to support them; but there are many more reasons too. Stonyfield also offsets all of the CO2 emissions generated from its facility energy use. The company started an amazing nonprofit called Climate Counts, which shows people how they can help fight climate change by the way they shop and invest. Stonyfield also donates 10 percent of its profits to efforts that help protect and restore the Earth. Wow, ‘nuff said? Not yet! We plan to share much more with you as the year progresses, but let us leave you with one final reason today – least we get carried away – why you should love Stonyfield too: The delicious and nutritious new Greek Yogurt, of course!!

stonyfield yogurtWe recently tried two new flavors, Black Cherry and Cafe Latte, as well as Blueberry, Strawberry and Superfruits. My daughter and I both loved the new Café Latte, it felt like a “special splurge!” In fact the Cafee Latte Greek yogurt has 0 fat and twice the protein – 12 grams of protein in a 150 gram container – that most yogurts do; and it has only 130 calories. Also, and as always with Stonyfield products, these new Greek yogurts are made by saying NO to toxic pesticides, artificial hormones, antibiotics and GMOs. We think these Greek yogurts are a great option in the Stonyfield yogurt line. “You gotta try this #StonyfieldGreek!” Let us know what you think!

Yours,

Climate Mama
