Film Awards, Silly Bandz, Oil Spills and Sustainable Pet Products: It’s a wRAP – July 9, 2010

Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and now Texas are all experiencing first hand the consequences of our reliance and addiction to fossil fuels, as oil slowly and continuously laps at their shores. If you live in one of these states, the crisis is real and hitting home; for the rest of us, it remains unclear if we are paying attention or learning any lessons – let’s hope so. Share our story on Silly Bandz and Kooky Pens in Climate Mama news with the kids in your life and help them make the connections between their latest and greatest “must have toy” and the crisis unfolding along our shores.

Our partners at Explore.org are looking to showcase talented filmmakers who are bringing to light remarkable actions and stories of individuals making a difference; in this case in response to a devastating environmental event.  If you know of any amazing and inspirational stories that you think should be shared and deserve recognition, send them to the Explore site for more information. The films submissions for this explore/HATCH Short Film Award are due August 25th.

One of OUR favorite film makers, Peter Sinclair, has just released his latest “Climate Denial Crock of the Week” on Climate Change and Security. Check out Peter’s latest video, in our Video peek of the Week!

We have some great new products to share with you in our “Seal of Approval” database, courtesy of our new “Green Guru” Lisa, from GivingGifts.ca. Check out some of Lisa’s finds for the 4-legged “child” in your life, as well as some of her recommendations for those children that usually only stand on two feet.
