Hello Climate Mamas and Papas!

Continuing on with our Climate Superhero series, It’s time, once again, for you and your families to don your superhero capes and fly your green flag high in the sky.

Did you put your Tips for your Kitchen, and Tips for your Office or Tips for your Backyard into action yet? If you did, send us your pictures or your comments, if you didn’t, why not!? Send us your tips, we’d love to share them!

Tips for Your Bedroom

1. Are you ready for some new sheets and towels? Did you know conventional cotton is responsible for 25% of the world’s insecticide use? Insecticides are cancer causing and disruptive to the endocrine system, so workers using them are affected, but without use for insecticides, less health issues would arise.

Linen manufacturers also often use dyes that are derived from petroleum. Petroleum is a highly polluting product which regularly leaves chemicals in waterways, destroying aquatic habitats (not to mention, it is a fossil fuel which produces greenhouse gases the primary driver for climate change!) Look for organic-cotton and sustainable-bamboo options when shopping for linens or towels.

2. Instead of increasing the AC when you want to cool down, crack open a window and save on AC costs. While you’re at it, use LED or fluorescent lights instead of incandescent ones.

3. Every so often, go through your closet and recycle your clothing. Give them to a charity or a friend. When you’re looking to buy something “new” check out the local vintage shops and consider buying recycled clothing, fyi EcoEtsy has some great online options!
