Forward on Climate! Washington DC and Minisink, NY: Do Something Wednesdays

Share

As most of our Climate Mamas and Papas have heard, there is BIG, BIG Rally happening in advance of President Obama’s 2013 State of the Union Address. ClimateMama is excited and honored to partner with the Sierra Club, Climate Reality, 350.org, Moms Clean Air Force, and a growing list of organizations for this amazing event. This will be one of those moments that you will remember for a lifetime.

We do know that, like many of us at ClimateMama, many of YOU are busy trying to “just get through the day to day” so if the Rally info hasn’t crossed your radar yet, here are the details:

WHERE: Washington Monument on the National Mall, in Washington, DC, with a march to the White House and a demonstration.

WHEN: Noon – 4 pm, Sunday, February 17th

WHO: EVERYONE, young and old! This is about our future and our NOW. You will be joining tens of thousands of people, all ages and from all walks of life. We will be celebrating and making sure our voices are heard, as we show our president that we are behind him; as we tell the country, this is the greatest challenge any of us will face in our lifetime – and we MUST to face it head on; and, as we loudly tell our members of Congress that we expect THEM to take action on climate, or to GET OUT OF OUR WAY, as we move passed them and do it ourselves.

Grab the kids in your life and watch this 1-minute video with them. GET EXCITED, remind them that we all can be part of the movement and the adventure. And that together we can create hope and real action for a better future for us now!

President Obama must move America Forward on Climate in 2013 with decisive action to reduce dangerous carbon pollution. The President’s legacy as 44th president of the United States of America rests squarely on his leadership in the face of an unstable climate future. Only the president has the power to lead an effort on the scale and with the urgency needed to phase out carbon-intensive fossil fuels and fire up energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy sources. The way forward on climate is clear: President Obama must start cutting carbon from today’s biggest polluters—power plants—and stop the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline to avoid adding more carbon pollution tomorrow.

So many of you cheered me on, when I took my children on August 22rd, 2011 to learn more about the Keystone XL protests and hear about how and why their mom was going to get arrested the next day. You followed our adventures as we joined with 12,000 others on November 6th, to “give the President a Hug” and ask him to postpone the pipeline, and you cheered with us when he listened to us and he did just that. We now need a more decisive answer from him.

Many of us are watching closely as our Canadian friends are fighting every day to prevent a pipeline from crossing the Rocky Mountains and to prevent tar sands oil from flowing to “China” and beyond. We need to do the same, fight hard to prevent this Keystone pipeline from traversing our country, to carry oil to the Southern US so it can be refined and sent around the world. The good thing about the Alberta tars sands is that they are “land locked.” Even with BILLIONS of dollars pouring in to extract this oil from the ground, WE can slow things down by stopping the pipelines that would carry it and by supporting the President as we get “on track” to make addressing climate change and creating a renewable and clean energy future, his legacy and ours.

FYI, for those of you in the Northeast, consider join us on a related action this weekend, Saturday, February 9th at noon in Minisink, NY where we will join in solidarity with local families, The Mothers Project, Mothers United for Sustainable Technologies, Mark Ruffalo, 9/11 first responders and other sympathetic supporters from around the region, as we try to stop a compressor station, from being built, part of the fossil fuel infrastructure. Oil and gas companies are “running scared” and trying to push through many projects, large and small, that would keep us tied to and addicted to fossil fuels. One battle fought and one victory won, together we will win the war and the fight for our future and our now.

Together we can make a difference. E-mail us at info@climatemama.com if you can join us February 16th in Minisink, or if you need additional information about the February 17th rally.

In the lead up to the Climate Forward Rally we will be regularly posting about the rally and how Climate Mamas and Papas are “moving forward on climate change.” 2013 must be the year of climate solutions and the president of the United States, with our support, must lead the way Forward on Climate.

FORWARD!

Yours,

Climate Mama
