Friday, February 12, 2010 the world comes to Vancouver, Canada for the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. Remember to check back regularly this coming week, as we bring you updates from the streets of Vancouver on how the city and the Games are showcasing sustainable ideas and practices. In the News this week we look at how climate change will make the world “smell” better, or worse, you decide!

Also in the news this week, the US government launched the NOAA Climate Services, a new portal on climate change, which the government is hoping will be a “one stop” user friendly information source on questions and queries on climate change. This is a first step at bringing NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) climate change science and research under one “umbrella” portal, shutterstock_649593making climate change information more available to the public. Hopefully this will help bring the facts forward, leaving the “mud slinging” where it belongs, in the mud, and making peer reviewed studies on climate change more readily accessible. It is becoming more obvious every day that there needs to be a fact based counter weight to the “noise” of political attack ads from all sides on climate change. The back and forth is garnering a lot of media attention, it is not focusing on the scientific facts before us, and is taking time and energy away from national and international discussions that need to take place if we hope to find a way to successfully solve the climate crisis!

On a lighter note, our Video Peek of the Week comes to us from the City of London, adding some “British humor” to the serious subject of climate change.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.
