Back to Climate Mama Product & Service Seal of Approval. How we choose products (product is used here to describe products and services): Any product you see recommended here has either been personally tested by Climate Mama, or by independent family testers affiliated and chosen by Climate Mama. Whenever possible, we also utilized lifecycle assessment tools to cross check and double check that the product or service we showcase has been reviewed by other reputable sources which meet our high standards. At Climate Mama we do not take ads or fees from any of the products we review. Therefore, we are not beholden to any company because they are an “advertiser” on our site. Criteria we use in reviewing products:
In order for a product to be listed on our site, we need to feel 100% comfortable and secure in telling you that in addition to being a purchase you need and can use our recommended product also is one you can feel good about using and recommending to your friends. We know that there are a myriad of choices out there and we want to help you make positive changes, one product at a time. We want you to be able to feel comfortable showing others how small acts can help lead to big ideas and big changes. Remember to tell your friends about the “Climate Mama seal of approval”! How we choose products to review:
“In principle, all decisions that affect or are meant to improve the environmental performance of a product/service should be scrutinized in terms of their life cycle implications. For the environmental perspective, a products life cycle can be represented as a circular movement that ties together resource extraction, production, distribution, consumption and disposal. In other words, all the phases of organized matter and energy that are in some way related to the making and use of a product can also be linked to an impact on the environment.” --Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Paris, France 1995 There are numerous organizations and companies around the world racing to be the “definitive” voice on life cycle analysis of products and services, or “cradle to cradle” analysis as it is sometimes called. In industries like the building industry, some of these companies are already doing a good job of this. In the consumer product and service areas and in the food production areas there is no “one” definitive voice. It is interesting to note however, that in the past several years, several big players are getting into the game, including PepsiCo, Wal-Mart Tesco (UK), L’Oreal, Dell and the list goes on; organizations such as Good Guide, Climate Counts, and EcoCert are also beginning to rate products, services and companies and to put pressure on companies to take corporate climate action. Climate Mama will keep you updated on progress in these areas, as it evolves. We think that you will find our database on “Climate Mama Products and Services”, useful in your everyday life. For each product or service we only list our “top three” choices, so you aren’t overwhelmed with suggestions, or decisions. You can feel confident that anything recommended by Climate Mama, has been Climate Mama vetted and checked and will help you reduce your carbon footprint and help you live a more sustainable lifestyle! |
